Smoothie Preparation –

These smashing smoothie recipes are all very easy to make and the perfect way to start your day!

  • Prep Time: 5 mins
  • Yield: 1 1x
  • Category: Smoothie, Drink
  • Method: Blender
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Add all ingredients to a high powered blender and blend until smooth, 30 seconds – 1 minute. Pour into a glass and enjoy.  If you like your smoothies cold, add a handful of ice before blending.

You can choose to add extras if you like, such as chia, hemp hearts, psyllium, seeds and nuts of pretty much any kind. They add essential oils, texture and flavour. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find something new and create a smoothie recipe of your own.

Fresh over frozen?

I prefer to use fresh fruit over frozen in my smoothies – frozen is more convenient but I think you lose some of the flavour.

Preparing ahead?

Put all ingredients into a zip lock bag and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

STRAWBERRY BANANA MINT SMOOTHIE

Strawberry Banana Mint Smoothie

This smoothie recipe is simple, easy and kid friendly!  For a single serving I added 1 frozen banana (I split and freeze my fresh bananas for my smoothies ahead of time), 1 cup of fresh strawberries (tops on), 1 stalk of mint (whole) leaves intact, 1/8 cup cashews to make it really thick and delicious.  I also tossed in 2 tablespoons ground cacao nibs seeds for some extra crunch and a boost of flavonoids. Top with 1/2 cup cashew milk and cover with cold water. Blend!

KALE AVOCADO KIWI CUCUMBER DILL SMOOTHIE

This smoothie is as green as it gets. There are several ways to make green smoothies – your options are endless!  For this smoothie add 1 cup chopped kale leaves (I don’t use the stalk from kale, because it’s a tad bitter), 1 small cucumber (skin included), 1 kiwi (washed, skin on). I add 1 small avocado or 1/2 large avocado to thicken and make creamy.  Oat milk and water, then blend.

I don’t add anything sweet to this one, but you are welcome to add maple syrup, honey or dates.

APPLE CARROT GINGER TURMERIC BASIL SMOOTHIE

This smoothie flavor is so healthy and refreshing!  It’s packed with fresh carrot, oranges, ginger and turmeric. I buy fresh ginger and turmeric and simply break a 1/2 inch off of each one – drop it in, skin and all!

This smoothie goes particularly well with a good scoop of plain Greek or regular yogurt for a rich, smooth texture. No need for anything sweet here… but dates work well with this flavour profile.

Recipe: 1 carrot, 1 orange, 1 apple, 1/2 inch each fresh ginger and turmeric. 1/2 cup each yogurt, oat or almond milk and cold water.
