Relieving constipation

constipation

When ya’ gotta go, but you just can’t!

There are various different strategies when relieving constipation that we can implement to help move that blockage.  Anyone who has experienced a backed up system knows how important, and desirable, a quick and easy fix is to achieve relief.

Listed here are 3 strategies – simple and easy – to help prevent and relieve constipation!

  1. Drink More Water
Prevention and relief can both be achieved by simply consuming enough water! Regular consumption helps move and eliminate substances travelling through the digestive tract to assure that waste does not become stuck. Adequate water consumption is also very beneficial for the kidneys as the elimination of urine means elimination of toxins. A double whammy!
  2. Increase Fiber Intake
Fiber + water = bowel movement.
Fortunately, fiber comes from some of the most beneficial foods for the body such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. By consuming these whole foods, you are also receiving an abundance of vitamins and minerals in addition to their fiber content. Remember that where there is fiber, there absolutely has to be water!  My favorite:  take 1/2 tsp psyllium husk in hot water every morning before eating or drinking anything else.
  3. Move That Body!
Constipation occurs when waste becomes stagnant and does not want to move. The movement from simply being active and exercising may be just be the push the digestion system needs to drive dead waste out. There is more than just an endorphin release that can happen when you break a sweat!
  4. Coffee Enemas – That’s a whole other story.  But they can work for constipation.

Can you take laxatives or “slimming” teas?

Sure! But laxatives and slimming teas – over time – will break down your digestive tract and cause lazy bowel, and longer term damage.

What if none of these work?

If none of these strategies work, then things have likely gone too far and your colon is in desperate need of hydration.  At this point, colon hydrotherapy is highly recommended to hydrate the colon and gently remove anything blocking the descending colon.  This could take several treatments, but colon hydrotherapy will not upset your digestive tract, and the results will be of greater benefit to your body as a whole.
